2025 Tesla Model Y: Electric Performance, Unmatched Versatility

A newly designed Tesla Model Y is on the way but won’t likely make its way to the market until sometime in 2025, giving us a new popular SUV to drive.

This next-generation version of the world’s best-selling electric vehicle is codenamed Juniper. It should offer new design qualities, a larger cabin, and a better driving range than the current model of this compact electric SUV. This new model will have the availability of a seven-seat configuration, giving drivers more seats when desired. Rumors suggest this new 2025 model is already in production at Tesla’s Gigafactory in China, with a few cars that will eventually ramp things up to full production.

What should this new model look like

So far, all we’ve seen are some renders of what to expect from the design of the new version of this electric SUV. The design is set to be an evolution of the current model, making it easier to have the look and style that has been consistent across Tesla models for quite a while.

This new Model Y should be about the same size as the current model, but it may have details that give it a whole new look. The most striking changes will be the new, more streamlined front end with improved aerodynamics and a slim light bar that runs the full width of the vehicle. The latest spy shots of this vehicle show a split headlight setup positioned beneath the light bar.

Expect to see a windshield similar to the one we have in the current model. The windshield flows into a glass roof, and you’ll see a full-width light bar showing off the width of the vehicle. This small electric crossover should have a slimmer LED rear light than in the previous model, which would be consistent with changes made to the Model 3 when it hit the new generation.

Going inside for more

Interior quality has become a focus for Tesla. The new Tesla Model Y, Juniper, will have a similar look to the outgoing version, but it will have much better interior materials than before. Unless Tesla was going to pivot and stop using sterile and uninterrupted styling in its vehicles, its kind of difficult to imagine too many things change in the Model Y cabin.

There won’t be any control stalks for some of the controls we see in other vehicles. The wipers, indicators, and gear selector should be gone. The wipers will be handled by the vehicle, which will operate automatically when the Model Y detects rain. The turn signal indicators will be controlled with buttons on the steering wheel, and gear selection will occur via touchscreen selections.

The gear selection is a smart feature in the Model Y. If you park this SUV facing a wall, the gear selection will automatically choose reverse to ensure you don’t drive into the wall.

This new electric Tesla also has a seven-seat configuration, which we expect to see in the United States. It should also receive the new Model 3’s super-comfortable front seats that are heated and ventilated, making them right for any drive. The rear seats should also receive a heating function.

New, longer driving range

The aerodynamics of this new model should allow the Model 3 to reach up to 430 miles of driving in the Long Range RWD model and 385 miles in the Long Range AWD version. A new, larger battery could be part of the 2025 Tesla Model Y, but it’s a rumor so far. This could bring better range, efficiency, and performance.

We should also see a Performance version of the Model Y, which could have the same Performance badging as the current Model 3.

A recent reveal of the Robotaxi version of the Model Y with full self-driving capabilities showed what this SUV could do if it doesn’t have the steering wheel or pedals. This unique model was driven on a closed course that was controlled by programming, but it could be a glimpse at what might becoming for the future.

When will we see the Model Y?

Production of the new 2025 Tesla Model Y is rumored to be underway at Tesla’s Chinese Gigafactory, which could allow this electric SUV to show up in America as early as Christmas.
