Simply put, a base model has only the most basic necessary parts for a car to run and be distinct. Or, at least, it used to be that way. Now, it mostly means the version of a vehicle with the least features.
The current base Hyundai Elantra in the United States still has a hybrid powertrain, heated front seats, a smart trunk, and a price tag of over $20,000 – it’s not exactly basic, is it?
By comparison, the super-base version has much less – it still has a Bluetooth connection, remote entry, and cruise control, but it lacks the creature comforts and large touchscreen display that we’ve come to expect from even little cars like the Elantra.
In fact, the safety features listed are only seat belts, basic brakes, and airbags! One of the comfort features is the ability to move your seat manually. For a vehicle made in 2021, it sure sounds like a classic 80s car.

So far, the only place anyone has seen this super-base version of the Hyundai Elantra is on Al Kaif Motors’ website. Whether it’s a vehicle that was manufactured and sold in the Middle East or just a knock-off version is hard to tell.
While the website doesn’t list anything like price or specific location, the contact page puts the business in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. It encourages interested buyers to contact them through WhatsApp for more information and to start a sale.
It’s unlikely you’ll be able to find this secret super-base model of the Hyundai Elantra anywhere in the United States, but it proves that older, simple cars are still out there somewhere.
Who knows – maybe the more we talk about it, the more of a chance there is of real base model cars making a comeback in America. It sure would take the pressure off of American wallets!
