Chevrolet is issuing some words of warning when it comes to driving to help you avoid being drowsy when you’re on the road behind the wheel.
Automakers can add a variety of safety devices and items in vehicles that are made to help you avoid an accident, but what they can’t add is an alert driver. Many brands even have a system that can detect if you’re getting drowsy when you’re behind the wheel, but this is simply an alert system and not a deterrent to driving.
Do’s and Don’ts of Driving Drowsy
Do Phone a Friend
Having someone to talk to while you drive can help keep you awake, engaged, and alert. Make sure you use the hand’s free feature offered in your Chevy vehicle to make this call and if you really need to talk and no one else is available, push the OnStar button and talk to a live advisor.
Do Get in the Game
There are a number of games that we’ve all played while driving, mostly to allow kids to avoid boredom while on long road trips, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do this on your own when you’re driving. Play the “I Spy” game or the “License Plate” game to keep your attention on what you’re doing and avoid drifting away to sleep.
Do Use the Tech in Your Car
Your Chevy vehicle is equipped with a variety of safety features to help you including lane keep assist and other active safety features. The vibrating alert seat in your Chevrolet also gives you the ability to be alerted when you’ve caused one of the systems of your vehicle to trip and let you know you need to make adjustments while driving.
Don’t Rely on an Energy Drink
Most energy drinks are filled with sugar that can give you a jolt for about twenty minutes, but after that you’re going to crash. You’re better off late than to never arrive where you’re trying to go. If you feel tired or drowsy, pull over, take a nap, and then start again when you feel a bit more refreshed and ready to drive.
Don’t Push It
Too often we think that we can get to where we want to go because the destination is only thirty more minutes away or less. You might have had an early start and it’s getting late, but you’re certainly better off stopping for a short break to walk around, stretch, and refresh your body before continuing down the road.
Signs that You’re Driving Drowsy
• Are you yawning often or having trouble keeping your eyes open?
• Do you remember the last few miles you’ve driven or did you miss your exit?
• Are you drifting from the lane and running over the rumble strips multiple times?
• Do you seem to be tailgating or slowing with other cars going past you?
• Are the active safety features alerting you several times?
Don’t drive drowsy, get the rest you need, and stay safe on the road so that you can enjoy the ride in your Chevy vehicle.
