Chrysler Brand is Ready to Grow With New Concept SUV

For the past few years, we’ve seen some of the brands from FCA downsized to offer us fewer models on the market. In fact, of the main four brands we see from this automotive group, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, and Ram, only the Jeep brand has grown in the number of vehicles offered. Dodge has lost the Viper and the Dart, Chrysler lost the 200, and Ram has stayed the same with the trucks and vans that we love to drive. This trimming of the models that weren’t performing was necessary for FCA to be able to step back and begin to step forward at the same time.

At the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, the head of FCA, Sergio Marchionne confirmed there is a new SUV in the mix to add a model to the Chrysler lineup to bring the total number offered from this brand to three. This new SUV isn’t ready to be offered to the market, and it’s been pushed back to 2019, but Marchionne confirmed it is going to arrive when it’s right and then be offered for us to enjoy an SUV that’s based on the Chrysler Pacifica minivan that we love on the market today.

Adding a new SUV to the Chrysler brand will give us another excellent model that will be expected to bring some of the Pacifica features to another area of the market. This new version of an SUV will be built at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada when it does make its way to the market. Marchionne confirmed this model could be up and running in as little as eighteen months in order to be a model that can give us a new SUV that can be the right choice for the drive you want to make.

While we don’t know much about the new Pacifica-based crossover SUV it will be expected to offer room for passengers and cargo with the size and shape that we want to see. With this new SUV being offered as a model that comes from the Pacifica platform there might even be a new plug-in hybrid version to be similar to what we have with the Pacifica minivan. This would mean the new SUV might share the 16 kWh powertrain found in the minivan while giving us the technology and features we love to see inside the new SUV.

There’s plenty of time for us to try and figure out what the new SUV from Chrysler will be called and how it will look, but with confirmation from the top that it’s on the way, we are beginning to see the growth of some of the brands in the FCA group that have been reduced to only a handful of models over the past few years. This new SUV is in the works and will arrive sometime in 2019 to be a model that we can admire and experience for the drive that we’re going to enjoy as much or more than the Chrysler Pacifica minivan.
