What you didn’t know until today, is the fact that an SRT model is able to offer us the endurance needed to be able to handle a long run on a track or a drive wherever you need to go. This is what we expect from performance cars and SRT models offered by Dodge are expected to be performance-oriented models that can endure the drive.
What Kind of Testing is Done?
The SRT team takes every model that you’re going to be able to choose from out to the track and puts it through the paces for 24 hours. This is the same amount of testing done for every Chevrolet Camaro and close to the amount of testing done by every Audi Sport model at the Nurburgring track in Germany. The SRT track that’s used for testing is the Ohio Nelson Ledges Road Course, where every SRT model is put through the paces to make sure you can have a vehicle that will perform right for you on the road and on the track.
The testing that’s completed for every SRT model takes nearly three days to complete the full 24 hours. This means there are nearly 1,100 laps that are completed around the 2.0-mile track. In order to complete this testing, every driver has to drive for a full tank of gas at speeds that are close to the lap time limit, but a set of tires won’t last a full tank of gas at these speeds. In order to make the tires last a little longer, the drive has to be accomplished at nearly 145 miles per hour.

If you were to work for Dodge, being a tester of the SRT cars might be the right job for you. While you have to drive the cars at a fast pace for a full tank of gas, you could have a lot of fun on the track. The team only changes the brakes, tires, and drivers during the 24 hours of testing that takes place for every SRT model. Recently, the Hellcat Redeye was able to cut the time from the 2012 Viper GTS by 0.6 seconds during a lap and has more straightaway speed than the Viper had.

Dodge not only tests in Ohio, but they also test in Text and have the SRT models put through simulated track days in 100-degree heat. The crew does five 20-minute sessions, running three cars on the track at a time with no other cars that could get in the way. All this testing means you’re going to have better vehicles to drive and have confidence in when you see the SRT name on any of the Dodge products that you might want to drive.
