While most of us aren’t sure exactly how far we’re going to drive on a daily basis and want to have the flexibility to drive where we want and when we want to, there are some models that are offered on the road that know exactly where they are going to go. School buses are driven on routes that are previously mapped out and can be planned to make them a great choice when it comes to the EV driving that’s becoming more and more popular on the market for us to enjoy and experience the ride.
While privately owned vehicles make up more of the vehicles on the road than commercial vehicles, the commercial models we see typically offer a much greater number of emissions being expelled than the cars we drive to and from work every day. Because buses are driven on planned routes and can be plugged in for long periods of time, they could be the right place to find electrification and one of the largest names in the school bus industry has announced a new bus that could offer the clean emissions drive needed to get kids to school on a daily basis.
Meet Jouley
The Thomas Built Buses by Daimler have been some of the most recognizable and popular used to get kids to school for many years. Jouley is the electric school bus and it will do the job in silence that current busses do in a noisy fashion. Not only will Jouley run silently, it’s also the only school bus that will operate and be powered by electricity to make sure your kids will get to school and the vehicle taking them there won’t expel any emissions in the process. This is a huge win for this industry.
The Jouley is named after the unit of energy called a joule and it will eventually be a bus that’s used and gets the job done of getting kids to school every day. Current school buses operate using diesel fuel and the average bus drives 12,000 miles per year. This results in a use of 1,714 gallons of diesel fuel every year which comes to 822,857,143 gallons per year across the entire country. This fuel alone costs $3,184,457,143 but the savings are going to be experienced even more when you consider the lack of emissions that Jouley has to offer.
The pitch for this new bus is that it is an emissions-free, noise pollution-free, fossil fuel-free solution to the buses we see now. This bus will also be much more affordable to drive on a daily basis and it can be built in smaller models as well to make sure the smaller routes that are found in some areas can continue to be driven as well. This is one of the most practical solutions offered and should be the bus used to replace the buses we see on the roads today when it’s time to replace them in the next few years.
