If you thought that Alfa Romeo was going to be adding to its lineup of gasoline-powered vehicles with a new compact crossover SUV, you’d be partially correct. We knew they were bringing us a new model to the Geneva Auto Show to give us something smaller than the Stelvio to take a look at, but what we didn’t know was what this new model would be. The new Alfa Romeo Tonale Concept has been revealed and it’s a new SUV that we certainly hope will make its way to production with only minor changes.
What is the Alfa Romeo Tonale?
Alfa Romeo has been working with a modern design language that’s translated extremely well in the current lineup that we enjoy on the market. The new Tonale Concept advances this design with slimmer lighting elements, sharper lines, and a sensuous style you want to drive. Inspiration for this new model came from some chassis with the wheels that are inspired by the 33 Stradale, side details that come from the Duetto and Disco Volante Spider and a set of headlights inspired by the SZ and Brera models to come together in an attractive package.
Going into the cabin, the Tonal offers a layout that gives you the confidence and control you want. The seats are trimmed with leather, Alcantara, and the interior is trimmed in aluminum. There’s a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. The dashboard look is fluid and seamless to give you the look and qualities you’re looking for in a great looking SUV. The infotainment system uses the latest Alfa software to give you what you’re looking for on the screen. This SUV, when in production, will likely have a ton of amazing safety features for you to have exactly what you need to stay safe on the road.
The Power of the Drive in the Tonale
This admirable and gorgeous small SUV that’s offered at the Geneva Motor Show gave us a look at what Alfa Romeo is thinking about, but we didn’t receive any detail regarding the drivetrain. Even so, this new concept is a plug-in hybrid model that will be the first model of its kind from Alfa Romeo if it’s produced with this powertrain. With this powertrain, we see two first for the Alfa Romeo name in the first compact SUV and the first hybrid model.
Will the Tonale be the Same at Production?
The fact that Alfa Romeo didn’t overdo the build or the features offered in the Tonale means there’s a good chance we’re going to see this SUV show up when it’s time for production with the look and the qualities that are present in the concept model shown off in Geneva. With this in mind, we’re going to enjoy learning more about what this impressive new compact crossover will have to offer us when it’s time for a great drive in a vehicle that has the style and the features that we associate with the advanced qualities of an Alfa Romeo vehicle.
