The brand synonymous with gas power has plans to transition all its vehicles from traditional combustible engines to all-electric power by 2035 in the European market. You won’t find this offering at your local Ford dealer anytime soon, however, as the automaker has not announced any plans to do the same in the U.S. market. Ford follows the lead of other tried and true gas-powered automakers including GM which also reportedly has plans to go all-electric by 2035.
What Does All-Electric Mean for Ford Vehicles?
As part of this electric push, Ford has touted the idea of reviving the internal combustion Ford Fiesta with an electric variation for European markets. While not much detail has been released, the automaker has largely focused on its current best-selling EV, its flagship pickup.
America’s favorite pickup, the Ford F-Series, continues to be one of the best-selling vehicles in the states for over 4 decades. The only other model in the brand rivaling the F-Series is the newly introduced Ford F-150 Lightning, the all-electric variation. All electric pickup truck maker Rivian maintains the lead however as having sold the most electric pickups in 2022.
Models belonging to the Ford F-Series have a cult-like following thanks to their impressive power and performance. So while the automaker plans to do away with the internal combustion engine, questions remain about how the pickup will do if it’s only offered as an electric model.

Ford should expect to face fierce competition from other electric pickup truck makers. Tesla is expected to introduce its Cybertruck later this year while the Chevy Silverado EV model is sure to garner sales with its impressive 450 and 550-mile range models. In addition to the competition provided by electric truck maker Rivian, Stillantis will also be a worthy contender with its all-electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV.
