The new version of the Ford Bronco is here and we can breathe a huge sigh of relief that this SUV has arrived.
The main question we must answer when looking at this new Bronco is whether or not it is as good as it was promised to be. With the target set squarely on being the top choice for off-road enthusiasts, we need to see if it’s going to deliver the goods.
What is the New Bronco?
Unlike the return of the Chevy Blazer, the return of the Ford Bronco gives you an SUV that’s ready to ride on the trails. This SUV can be had in either two or four-door configurations, can be had with a removable roof and doors, and give you the advanced 4WD system you’ve been looking for. When compared to others in this class, the Bronco has the best-in-class ground clearance, suspension travel, and crawl ratio. Take that Jeep Wrangler!
Creative Trim Names for Your Drive
You can expect Ford to come up with more trims and choices for this SUV in future model years, but for now, we have six creatively named trims that can give you the drive you want. These trims are called Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, and First Edition. Every trim can be had with the sasquatch off-road package to give you more hardcore trail riding.
What Does the Sasquatch Package add to the Ford Bronco?
Turn the Bronco into a wile off-road beast with the Sasquatch Off-Road Package. This package gives you 35-inch tires, locking front and rear differentials, high-clearance suspension and fender flares, a ten-speed automatic transmission with Trail Control, and a 4.7:1 final drive ratio. You can’t get this package with a manual transmission yet, but it might be offered in the future.
An Interior Made for Off-Road Fun
The dials and controls you find in the cabin are covered in rubber to make it easy for you to use them when you’re out in the wilderness. This SUV can be had with either an eight or twelve-inch touchscreen and you’ll find impressive and comfortable seats for your drive. You’ll love the wireless connectivity offered and the roominess of this interior area.
Vintage Exterior Items with a Modern Application
The new Ford Bronco pays homage to the original version from 1966-77. It does this with rough headlights and a single-piece rectangular grille. In the rear, the Ford emblem is on the left side of the rear tailgate, which we saw on models from the 1980s and 1990s. The two-door model is longer than the original but shorter than later versions of this SUV.
Start at the Base Version of the Ford Bronco
The Bronco rides on a fully boxed truck frame that is shared with the Ranger. You’ll have a modular hardtop that can be removed, standard 4WD, a two-speed electronic shift-on-the-fly system, 16-inch steel wheels, 30-inch all-season tires, and 8.3 inches of ground clearance.
The soft top is only offered on four-door models of this SUV, which is a consideration for you. As for aftermarket items, Ford expects to have more than 200 accessories available at your Ford Dealer for you to have items installed for your drive.
Look at Each of the Trims to See What They Offer
We see the impressive list of names that remind us of places you might want to go with your Ford Bronco. The Big Bend model gives you more creature comforts, the Black Diamond model offers tougher items for off-roading, the Outer Banks model gives you the most tech and creature comforts, and the Wildtrak is made for high-speed desert off-roading.
The First Edition is limited to 3,500 models and is a mix of the Badlands features, Outer Banks interior, and Wildtrak exterior. The Badlands model is the ultimate version of the Bronco with tons of amazing features for you to have the drive you want.
A Pair of Excellent Engines Offered at Launch
This first year of the new Ford Bronco brings you a pair of engines. The base engine is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder model that makes 275 horsepower and 315 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine can be had with either a seven-speed manual or ten-speed automatic transmission. The upgraded engine is a 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 engine that offers 310 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. The V6 engine is only offered with an automatic transmission.
Is the new Ford Bronco everything we were promised in the prototype version? It appears that everything is in place and this SUV is ready to take the throne away from other off-road SUVs.
