One of the brands offered from the FCA group that happens to be the one that is being used as the brand that will provide the forward-thinking and carry the load when it comes to the profits expected from the FCA team is Jeep. We’ve already seen the new generation of the most popular model from this brand but there’s more for us to expect to see for the future of this brand going forward. What we expect to see is a pair of new crossovers that will give us three rows for the drive we want in a Jeep. The Jeep Grand Commander offers everything you want in a crossover, with that extra row when you need it.
Even though we think we know what coming when it comes to what Jeep will bring to the market there’s nothing to say the development isn’t taking place in China. Right now, Jeep is working on a three-row crossover SUV that will be called the Grand Commander. This name was found in the trademark registry in China which makes it seem like it might be a model that’s only offered in China, but this new model could be used for much more to give us the movement forward we need for Jeep to bring us a three-row SUV to the US market.
The Development and Models We Expect to See
Right now, the new Grand Commander is in development and it could be one that’s based on a crossover with a plug-in hybrid model that we saw as a concept at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2017. Since that time, we’ve seen prototypes spotted that were out testing on the roads to give us an idea of what this new SUV might be when it finally arrives on the market in the next few years in China, but it might also be part of what makes its way to the US.
Jeep has hinted several times at bringing hybrid models to the market and expects to be able to offer us a plug-in hybrid model for the future to give us what we want for the ride. The brand is also expected to make its way to the market with new three-row SUV models that will be right for the drive and for a family in the US. These new models should wear the names of Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, but will they become hybrid models or will they be built from something else?
Early expectations of the Wagoneer pair allowed us to think these new models would be built from the same platform that the Ram 1500 will use in the future starting in the upcoming model year. With the development of the Jeep team in China, it seems as though a hybrid model may be in order, although there is no guarantee it will be offered in these top models that will fit in at the top of the lineup. Even if the Wagoneer pair doesn’t make use of the hybrid technology, the plan is for there to be a new hybrid platform offered for the drive in one of the smaller models from Jeep in the next few years.
