As auto manufacturers continue to refine their offerings and SUVs take on a larger part of the market, the sedan segment continues to dwindle. We’ll highlight some of the legends we’ve lost.
Even though it makes sense that some cars won’t make the cut to stay in production, it’s disappointing to see some of the more fun-to-drive models disappear. Luckily, many of these recent joy riders are still available used, so you can still bring one home before they are gone forever.
Here are some of the most fun-to-drive sedans that are no longer in production:
The Cadillac CT6
Some drivers argued that the Cadillac CT6 sedan didn’t have the same luxury features as you might find in other Cadillac options. Don’t be mistaken; this classic brand didn’t hold back on the Cadillac CT6. Instead of putting all of its efforts into creating another luxury sedan, Cadillac made one of the most pleasurable rides in its lineup.
The Cadillac CT6-V is loaded with a 4.2-liter V8 affectionately called the Blackwing. This beast of an engine offers 550 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. Cadillac also made sure not to skimp on technology in the CT6. Every model comes with features like Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, navigation, three USB ports, and wireless smartphone charging.
It may not be the Cadillac you’d expect, but if that means getting something with this much pickup, that’s not a bad thing. The Cadillac CT6 sedan ended its production run in 2020, so there are still plenty of pre-owned options out there for your pleasure.
The Dodge Viper
It’s not uncommon for drivers to forget that they’re in a racecar when they step inside of the Dodge Viper. The Viper is more than just the coolest name to call a sports car; it’s one of the only vehicles that can produce a unique raw driving experience. One of the best parts about this monster is that it costs a fraction of other sports cars in its class.
The Viper was built for one purpose: speed. Sure, it has an amazing look that will attract the paparazzi, but that’s just an offshoot of this kind of power. The 8.4-liter V10 engine can produce up to 645 horsepower. That explains why you can blast off from zero to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
The Dodge Viper first hit the road in 1992, just 15 years before it was finally cut from production (2017). If you see one of these for sale, grab it up quickly before someone else does.
The Chevrolet Impala
The Chevrolet Impala is one of those sedans that proves that being discontinued from production doesn’t necessarily mean the vehicle is dead. This sedan started its first run in 1957. It was taken off the production lines in 1985 only to return again in 1994. It took another hiatus in 1996 before coming back on the market in 1999. The 2020 model year is the last year available for now.
The Chevy Impala has always been a solid choice: spacious interior, giant trunk, excellent tech, and more. Where the Impala really stands out is with its ride quality, acceleration, and responsiveness. It’s a full-size sedan that doesn’t feel like driving a tank.
The standard 3.6-liter V6 (305 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque) may not seem as snazzy as some competitions, but it offered more than enough juice for a fun drive. Shoppers had plenty of models and upgrade options to truly personalize this popular sedan. Unfortunately, large cars are being replaced by SUVs, so it’s hard to say if the Impala will rise again or if this is the last chance to get one before it disappears into the record books.
