Ford Stroppe Bronco Then and Now - banner

The original Ford Stroppe Bronco Baja edition was a limited-edition version of the Bronco during the 1960s and 70s. It was considered the Shelby of Broncos because of its success in desert races. The Stroppe Bronco had a very distinct look, and if you like a Ford Bronco with a retro feel, you can get a modern version of it with a special edition in the 2025 lineup.

The Original Ford Stroppe Bronco

The original Stroppe Bronco was a limited-edition version of the off-road Ford Bronco that was customized by Baja legend Bill Stroppe. Stroppe was known in the off-road racing world for taking factory-built Broncos and modifying them so they were ready to take on off-road races, such as the NORRA Mexican 1000 and the Baja 1000. Stroppe made history at the 1969 race when he drove a stock 4×4 Bronco and won.

His partnership with Ford allowed customers to order Bronco models with a Stroppe Baja Bronco Package. The vehicles were shipped to his factory, where they were modified with Stroppe equipment before being sent to the customer.

What Made the Stroppe Bronco Stand Out?

The Stroppe Bronco stood out from the Bronco pack because of its metallic astra blue roof, white body, flat black hood, and red body. Power came from a V-8 engine with 302 horsepower, and it featured an upgraded suspension and custom roll cage.

A Modern Take on the Classic Ford Stroppe Bronco

The legendary Ford Bronco Stroppe is making a comeback in the 2025 Ford lineup. The new Bronco pays homage to the original Baja Bronco with the look and feel of the original desert racer with the off-road capabilities you can get in a modern SUV.

The modern version is based on a two-door Wildtrak, but it features the distinctive tri-tone color scheme from the original Stroppe Bronco. Ford is even bringing out its exclusive Code Orange paint for this Bronco. It’s the only time it’s been used on any vehicle other than the Raptor. You’ll find it on the body and Code Orange tow hooks.

A Whole Host of Hardcore Hardware For this Bronco

The original Stroppe Bronco could take on off-road desert terrain like no other vehicle, and the new Stroppe Bronco has a long list of equipment that makes it even more capable. It has 35-inch Goodyear Territory RT tires, a HOSS 3.0 suspension with Fox internal bypass dampers, and rock rails that are built right into the side steps.

Power comes from a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 330 horsepower that works with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It’s no surprise that it comes standard with all-wheel drive.

What About the Inside?

Climb inside the new Bronco Stroppe, and you will be greeted with a white dashboard panel with the Bronco badge in bright Code Orange. This accent color is found throughout the cabin, including the grab handles, stitching on the seats, and the G.O.A.T. drive mode selector.
