The production of the final Jeep Wrangler JK took place last month and that end means there’s no room to begin to retool this production line for the next offering from Jeep. The next model to come down the line is expected to be the pickup version of the Wrangler which is called the Scrambler and it will be the first time we’ve had a pickup from this brand since the previous version of the Scrambler was offered which has been a long time. This new model is certainly what we’ve been looking forward to for a while.
Recently, spy shots have been captured of the new Scrambler out on the roads testing to give us a look at and the idea of what this might be. The production-ready tailgate that will be offered on the Scrambler has been seen on a vehicle that’s heavily covered in camouflage. The tailgate that we see in the photos looks much like the new Ram 1500 with a bulge near the top that acts to aid in the aerodynamics needed to make sure this new truck can cut the wind and let us have the ride we want to enjoy.
Detailing What the Jeep Scrambler Will Have
When its offered on the market, the new Scrambler will share the same powertrains with the new Wrangler JL. This makes perfect sense since the two will be produced alongside each other in Toledo and built on the same platform. This means the Scrambler will be offered with the classic Pentastar V6 with 285 horsepower, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 270 ponies and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, and a new 3.0-liter diesel engine that will become part of the build starting in the 2019 model year of the Wrangler.
The photos shown don’t give us much to look at except the tailgate and the overall boxy shape that we expect this truck to use as its built with a similar shape to the new Wrangler. This new four-door model has been the only one we’ve seen testing so far, and that leaves us to wonder if there will be a two-door version of the Scrambler or if it will only be offered with four-doors. This may be a change to the market from FCA, considering the Ram 1500 for 2019 doesn’t have a regular two-door model on the market yet.
The new Jeep Scrambler is expected to begin production later this year to ensure the truck can launch in the early part of 2019. This new model will eventually make its way to one of the auto shows offered later in the year to let us have a great look at what this truck will be so that we can give it the attention we feel it deserves. Until then, we’ll have to be satisfied with the spy shots that were taken that give us a look at what the Scrambler tailgate will be and leaves us with a slew of questions we may need to ask in the near future.
