Kia Line up

Over the past few years, sedans have seen a dip in sales in favor of crossover vehicles. Now, with many car manufacturers turning toward an all-electric future, we’re hearing more and more often about sedans no longer being manufactured.

According to Chosun Ilbo, Hyundai Motor Group will soon say goodbye to the Hyundai Sonata and Kia’s K5 and Stinger vehicles as part of this shift away from sedans that aren’t providing the sales needed to stay afloat.

When will they stop being manufactured? What will this mean for Kia dealers going forward?

What’s Happening to Kia’s Sedans?

According to reports from Korea, Hyundai Motor Group is planning to drop the Sonata From its lineup. Similar vehicles like the Kia K5 and Stinger may soon be removed from the lineup as well.

Hyundai and Kia representatives have said that the Sonata, K5, and Stinger are vital vehicles in their current lineup. While this may be true, the automotive industry is shifting away from mid-size sedans and other car models that no longer fit the desires of the average motorist. This makes it unlikely that these models will not stay on the market much longer.

The Stinger is currently suffering in sales, creating rumors that it will be dropped from Kia’s lineup by the end of this quarter to make space for a new electric vehicle.

Where Kia is Heading From Here?

A shift toward manufacturing more electric vehicles and the fact that many shoppers are purchasing more pickups, SUVs, and CUVs have led to previously popular sedans, coupes, and hatchbacks being phased out of car manufacturers’ lineups.

Many of these models are being replaced by new all-electric models. Hyundai, for example, is releasing the EV6 GT-Line to replace the Stinger as part of its plan to dominate the electric vehicle market in the next few years. Kia dealers could soon find themselves with a wider range of electric cars from the brands owned by Hyundai to sell.

Kia, as a brand under Hyundai Motor Group, will likely follow the same trend toward ridding themselves of badly-performing gasoline vehicles in favor of new electric models.

What Should Kia Dealers and Buyers Expect?

Kia dealers and purchasers alike should prepare for the turn away from traditional gasoline to more environmentally-friendly electric cars. They are rapidly becoming a large part of the car market.

While the recently reported changes to Kia’s lineup could take years to go into effect, it’s important to stay in the know about what’s happening with vehicle manufacturing. Sales issues and the growing trend toward electric vehicle manufacturers have already killed off models like the Ford Fusion and could soon do so to Kia’s K5 and Stinger.

Who knows if your favorite model could be next on the chopping block? Keep an eye on news from Hyundai and Kia to find out more about the fate of the K5 and Stinger in the coming months and see what new models are coming to Kia dealers near you to replace them.
