I really shouldn’t be surprised that a car that’s only been offered on the market for a month has already been upgraded by one of the most famous tuning companies in the country, but every time it happens I am. It appears the team at Hennessey couldn’t wait to get their hands on the new Corvette ZR 1 and as soon as the wraps were taken off this car was headed to the offices of Hennessey Performance Engineering in Sealy, TX to begin a serious list of upgrades that make it a car that will offer impressive power.
Hennessey has added the HPE 1200 Supercharged package to allow the LT5 V8 engine to be tuned up to 1,200 horsepower and 1,066 lb.-ft. of torque for the power desired. If you can handle this insane amount of power you’re going to be in a car that reaches up to the hypercar crowd in order to give us the insane speed and incredible performance that we expect from car that comes from the exotic European brands that we see built in low and collectable numbers for the drive you’re looking for. There are some incredible results of what you’re looking for when you want to race this car around the track.
What kind of performance numbers will you see with the Hennessey tuned Corvette ZR1? You’ll be able to enjoy a sprint to sixty mph in only 2.2 seconds and be able to reach the quarter mile time in 9.2 seconds at a speed of 147 mph. The top speed for this version of the Corvette could reach up as high as 230 mpg, which is simply unheard of in the Corvette until now. All of these figures will require you to ride on a set of drag radials, but that’s the least of your concerns for the drive in this amazing car.
More Specifics
In order to reach the severe numbers that will be offered by this incredible car that’s been tuned up for the drive, the LT5 engine has been upgraded from 6.2-liters to 7.0 liters of displacement. There is a new high-flow supercharger that’s been added and a new intercooler setup to give this car upgraded internal performance. There are ported cylinder heads and a high-flow exhaust system. In order to make all of this work the way they need it to, Hennessey has recalibrated the ECU to make sure everything runs smoothly.
If you don’t think you can handle 1,200 horsepower for the drive you want to make at the track, Hennessey offers a tamer model of this car with an upgrade that you can have for the drive. This tamer model is the HPE 1000 Supercharged and the HPE 850 Supercharged packages for the ZR1. These numbers relate to the power offered in the same way as the HPE 1200 by giving you 1,000 horsepower or 850 horsepower respectively to give you what you want when you’re looking for a more extreme version but want to keep it reasonably tame.
While the stock model of the ZR1 isn’t a tame model with a sprint to sixty mph of only 3.0 seconds or less. The same eight-speed automatic and seven-speed manual models are still offered for the Hennessey versions of this car to give you the power you’re looking for. The sales of this car will begin in the spring with the coupe coming in at nearly $120,000 while the convertible will cost nearly $4,000 more than the coupe.
